Chilkoot Bear Photography Private Tours & Workshops
Haines Alaska offers great opportunities for bear viewing and photography along the Chilkoot River, especially on your own private tour. Our brown bears (aka grizzly bears) feed on the pink salmon that run in one of Alaska’s most pristine salmon rivers in August, September and October. Of course there are eagle opportunities as well, as salmon provide the base of a time honored fundamental food chain. (Even humans enjoy the sport of landing salmon on their lures or flies).
The Chilkoot River is a unique experience sought by many visitors to Haines Alaska. I have been a guide, photographer, and fisherman in the Chilkoot corridor for over a decade. I understand the location, the wildlife and the timing as well as my guests’ needs and desires to experience an ethical and personalized wildlife experience.
Whether you are a visitor for the day or wish to make Haines your travel destination, I offer several options to optimize your Alaskan experience. You may see an overview of my tour and workshop options on my main workshop page, or feel free to contact me directly with your personal questions.
The Chilkoot River corridor is not without its controversy and press recently. I have written a series of blogs under the heading of the Chilkoot Saga. You may enjoy reviewing some of my observations along the way:
